Executive Director Tyler L. Hough, MS, has been recognized with the 2024 Outstanding Leader in Experiential Education: Rising Leader award by the Society for Experiential Education (SEE). This honor celebrates his innovative leadership in critical place-based pedagogy and his substantial contributions to the field of experiential education since joining SEE in 2021.

The award, presented annually at SEE’s conference, recognizes individuals who have quickly established themselves as rising stars in the field of experiential education. Since joining SEE, Hough has exemplified this by pushing the boundaries of experiential education research and practice, demonstrating a deep commitment to advancing the field through scholarship, collaboration, and leadership.

“This award is a testament to the power of collaboration and the transformative potential of experiential education,” said Tyler L. Hough, Executive Director of the Chicago Center. “I’m proud to be part of this community and to contribute to the ongoing evolution of our field.”

Hough has authored works on critical place-based education, including his 2023 publication Elevating Community Voices through Place-Based Education Initiatives in Chicago in Metropolitan Universities journal. This work highlights the Chicago Center’s commitment to creating meaningful educational experiences that center on community engagement and social responsibility. Selected as a SEE Fellow in 2022, Hough has presented his research at several conferences, including the 2023 SEE and 2024 ELLI conferences, and has published work in the Experiential Learning & Teaching in Higher Education journal.
