The Chicago Center announces new strategic plan and vision
CHICAGO, IL–The Chicago Center for Urban Life and Culture announced a new strategic plan–Reigniting Our Strategic Directions 2022-25–that builds on the organization’s half-century foundation as a provider of place-based, culturally-immersive experiential education experiences in Chicago.
Since 1970, the Chicago Center has been leveraging the power of people and place to guide transformative learning for students. This plan nods to the Chicago Center’s history and roots in Chicago while embracing the dynamic role in urban experiential learning and challenges facing higher education.
“Our strategic planning process over the last four months engaged nearly 50 members of the Chicago Center community—from alumni to current students, faculty and campus liaisons.” said Executive Director Tyler Hough. “I am overjoyed to share this new plan and refined vision statement with you.”
For the first time in 15 years, the Chicago Center team and board of directors reviewed the organization’s vision statement and embarked upon the strategic planning process in May 2022. The 2022 Strategic Planning Process identified four core priorities that comprise the Chicago Center’s new strategic plan: Experiential Education, Academic Initiatives, Administrative Advancement, and Alumni Engagement.
New Vision Statement We are building a community of critical thinkers devoted to using our talents to build a more just world. By cultivating strategies for thinking and cultural learning through a community-based approach, the Chicago Center prepares our alumni to be lifelong learners and change agents in communities across the globe.
“Our new vision statement reflects our ambitions and more accurately conveys the world we envision for our students, alumni, and community members,” said Board Chair Zach Lowe. “The Chicago Center is well positioned for growth and this plan charts a path forward for us to continue achieving mission-aligned growth.”
